I've been tinkering with mods on my board again. This rather frumpy old peavy that I've chopped and loved to death. I really love this board mostly due to how easy it is to mod...
I've been running phantom power off the boards own power supply at 17v
this has been mostly useful, as I have many mics that will run just fine at that level, without problems.
But, I'm chopping away again and have parts together to ensure that I can run a separate power supply for phantom power alone (without damaging the board).
my question is how many AMPs do I need behind a phantom power circuit for 8 channels? as well as 16 channels?
I'm planning to mod the 8 channels now and perhaps modding the other 8 later on using the same power source
I can't imagine it would need much... but I'm trying to get some input first.
any insight?

Phantom AMPs? 8 channels? 16 channels?????
2Assuming you're making a 48 v phantom PS.
The most current that can be drawn is 14 mA with pin 2+3 shorted to ground.
48 volts divided by 3405 (parallel resistance of the two 6.81k phantom power resistors) gives you .014 Amps. E/R=I.
That would be a worst case scenario. If you plan for 20 mA per channel then you'll be in good shape.
8 chan X .02 Amps = .16 Amps.
16 chan = .32 Amps

3sweet
thanks for the info
I'm thinking I'll only do 8 channels, for it will be easy and cheap
not thinking I will need more then 8 at 48 volts for now anyhow...
and as far as down the road goes... I'd simply like to get a nicer board
thanks again
