Not crap, although I think Dan Clowes is a little overrated in general i.e. great but not as great as everyone makes him out to be. This film has Steve Buscemi and a Skip James song in it. These two facts alone prevent it from ever possibly being crap.

i kinda thought this movie was crap when i first saw it a few years ago. but i can reflect fondly on how pathetic buscemi was... scarlett johansen was alright but both girls' performances pretty much annoyed the hell out of me. especially that one chick with the retarded boobs.

That would be Thora Birch, who completely nailed her character. You must not have been one of the countless 18yr-old girls who were exactly like this like this.

Buscemi is so good it's painful. The role seems like it was written just for him and it's probaby my favorite of his.

The scene where they are in the diner (with Weird Al and the milkshake) kills me every time.

Not Crap

At the time, it was the only movie that I could think of where the main characters' actions had realistic consequences.

I liked it.

Immediately Not Crap for exposing people to the glory that is "Jaan Pehechaan Ho", a song I learned to play ages and ages ago (like in 1990 or so) and still think is one of the best pop songs ever.

I love this movie. I like the mullet guy.

I like the start of the movie, where it's graduation and those girls are doing some kind of obnoxious dance performance. One of them has a wedgie and Thora Birch rolls her eyes.

I really didn't like this movie. Can't remember it very clearly now, other than that I really didn't like it, and that I think I used to live right down the street from that diner. Oh, wait, I remember something, the characters played by those two chicks bugged me. It is probably a credit to those two chicks that the characters bugged me so, because I suspect they were written to be that way. Still, I found it hard to sit through the whole thing, regardless of how genuine the actors' performances were.

I am a fan of Dan Clowes' comic books.... I remember being not totally satisfied with the movie when I first saw it but I just watched it again for the first time in years the other night and I liked it much more. It has an interesting way of drawing these characters with very little action...actually that is what I originally did not like about it... too much action...too much plot. It made it seem more of a linear story when really the drawn version is less of a story then a mood and interesting (sometimes annoying, sometimes shallow, sometimes caddy) character study that tells a lot about the person studying them (Clowes himself).

I am excited to see Art School Confidential... think it comes out next month?
