Did anyone happen to record Shellac's set lists for the Knoxville and Birmingham shows? And also if there are any pix/videos/torrents of the shows, these links would be much appreciated!

Didn't see Knoxville or Birmingham but I saw Athens last night. I don't do the photography or bootlegging thing. Nor do I keep careful notes on setlists (seemed like the band wasn't operating from a list either - all very off-the-cuff and spontaneous feeling) but from memory, this is roughly how it went ...

I'm forgetting some and there were some that I simply didn't know the name. I probably screwed up a song or two as well but this is the gist of it. They played a long set - 90 minutes or thereabouts. Todd Trainer was in rare form. The black-and-clear blouse really worked for him.

They definitely are not working from a setlist - at both shows they were clearly debating on stage as to which song they would play next. They played a couple of new songs in Knox. In Birmingham they played several new songs whose names I do not know. Thus the reason for this post.

In Knoxville Todd sported a plain white t-shirt - drenched in sweat by the third song, and in Birmingham Todd donned the same black-and-clear blouse of which you speak. He looked impeccable and the band was tighter than a 12-year old asian girl both nights.

In Birmingham, Bob wore a red sweat band on his right wrist - green on his left. And his t-shirt had a hotdog and can of mustard on it.

I don't usually do the bootlegging thing either, but due to the rare form in which they are currently playing, I'm thinking of buying some type of digital recording device to sneak into the Chicago show just to capture at least one set from this tour for posterity.

My grandchildren will thank me some day.

Please explain how recording a live show from a band I worship, and to whom I've paid my hard earned money, travelling around the US to support is stealing, o righteous one.

I would gladly pay Shellac a handsome fee to professionally record their live shows if I thought they were interested in such a proposition.

You are paying for a ticket to see and listen to a live show. You are not paying for a recording of the show. I have no doubt that if Steve (or Shellac) wanted you to recieve a free recording of the show, he would make them available.

The fact that you are planning to sneak a recording device into the show leads me to believe that you already know this.

I do not think they are interested in recording or selling live shows for MONEY - I don't think they would care one way or the other about a genuine fan recording a show for their own music collection. I spoke with Steve, Bob, and Todd at both shows this past weekend and they are the most gracious and humble performers I've ever met.

I've never recorded a live show in my life, (if you read my first post carefully - I was thinking of purchasing some recording equipment) and I would NEVER actually waste a Shellac experience holding up a fucking mike or anything like that. For me, when I get the opportunity to see my favorite bands, it is a religious experience. Hell, I don't even take pix with my cell phone, (that's why I always ask if anyone else has any). I am completely about the live experience.

My plan for the hypothetical recording was to try and bribe the sound engineer or someone else involved with the band to do the recording for me. Allow me to set it up somewhere and retreive it later. If I thought for a second that Shellac had a problem with it - I wouldn't do it.

Either way, I currently have nothing with which to record and will most likely be too lazy to buy such a thing, so you can unwad your little pink panties now.
