I have viewed THE most horrific, repulsive, and disturbing movie ever made. It traumatized me entirely more than I expected it would have. It set in the Nazi/Fascist era in Italy. 9 teenage boys and girls are sexually and mentally tortured for 120 days by fascist libertines. The director Pier Paolo Pasolini was brutally murdered after the completion of this film. It’s banned in the US so it is virtually impossible to get your hands on a copy unless you get one from eBay. I suggest watching this film not so much for entertainment but for historical value.

I've heard this - I've known people who are underwhelmed and overwhelmed upon seeing it. It's weird, I'm a huge Pasolini fan but I don't know if I'll ever have the stomach for this movie. Also, it isn't that hard to get - there are plenty of places to find it. I think it's cool how this movie still tops 'most shocking' lists 30 years after it was made - more than any of those Miike films or anything

i have watched this movie after it became "un-banned" a few years ago.
it is disturbing to say the least but it is also longwinded and really fucking boring.
i can see what the fuss was about, but after all the recoiling in horror its just a shit film.

Ehh, I dont know. I am a big fan of very disturbing films and I'll say that Salo is fiarly intense. I would even say Cannibal holocaust is more unnerving. The most disturbing film I've ever come across is Irreversible.

I don't think it is banned in the U.S. anymore, because the first copy of it that I watched, was rented from a local video rental place.

Last year, we found a copy of it in the 2 quid bin at a video/DVD store in England. It has recently been un-banned in the U.K. within the past 5-10 years.

It's is a memorable movie, that's for sure.

It is incredibly disturbing. Moreso of the coldness and callousness of the film. Getting off on others' pain. Enjoying shit buffets. Terrorizing people in general only to murder them.

I loved it. It is historically important because any film that shocks so many critics and moviegoers/makers sensibilities so deeply is worth something.

Granted, given all the other shit in films since then, it is comparatively weaker than it was when it was released. Yet, it does warrant a viewing. If not for the mood, then for the context of the times. You want really fucked? Read de Sade's work which this film is based off of. That's some weird shit.

Pasolini's work is excellent. I have this on my CPU as a .avi...I will sendspace it if anyone's interested. Only downside is that it has no subtitles, so you have to google a copy of the script and read along. Criterion is rereleasing the DVD due to its growing popularity in the scum market I hear...so you can wait.

i agree, Irreversible was the most disturbing movie i have seen untill this damn movie.

I liked Salo a bit, but it is really a political surreal statement thing. For more effective political terror, try 'Men Behind the Sun'. Seriously.
