It was fun.

Had to be home for the morning so missed Do Make Say Think (who played at the clearly and monumentally fucking idiotic time of 1am Monday morning), but saw a bunch of stuff that was good/great.

The vibe seemed to be something approaching bog-standard festival, although beer-cup throwing retards have mercifully yet to feature, but it was still a pretty damn pleasurable w/e. Also, unless a terrible case of the shits was sweeping through the temporary population of Butlins, there seemed to be an extraordinary amount of coke-taking going on.

Slint: bored/boring. New track - meh.

Micah P. Hinson, Cornelius, Akron/Family, Battles all remembered to pack their rock. Cornelius appeared to also remember to pack his wonderful magic lights.

Was rather taken by Shellac's slo-mo, Matrix-style thang.

Pavilion stage was pretty horrible, but 'centre stage' is great.

Possibly the end of ATP as other than the norm, festival-wise but good times anyhoo.

NOT CRAP.

**edit**

no tales of debauchery here I'm afraid. too old.

ooookydokey.

The Notwist was my 1st band, thought they were excellent. Had a nice seat at the back, had a bit of a mellow smoke. Nice.

I think that's all I really 'saw' on Friday. Spent most of it dancing and doing the limbo in Jumping Jaks. Unbeatable.

Next day started with Shellac downstairs. It was so light in that place I meant to hate it but didn't mind it too much. Shellac were effin ace.

Me, Lauren and Naila went to the Irish pub and Todd Trainer undressed us all with his dirty dirty eyes. He went off to get his hair cut and came back to us and our mates Jim and Curtis who were shouting abuse at people walking past the pub. Sorry if you got called a cunt.

After a while it was back to the chalet for a smoke and some Melvins which is how I completley fucked up and forgot to watch LSF. I think I saw some Battles...

I thought Cornelius were great, just what the doctor ordered. The Books were BOLLOCKS.

Trans AM were THE bollocks. It was a ROCK set 'cause Phils keyboard broke which everyone was happy about. I effing love that band.

Watched Edan & MC Dagha before retiring to Jaks once more to check out Spykids dj skills. He was brilliant.

On Sunday I saw Slint. I thought their 1st song was AMAZING-UGH. It was just like ZZ Top or something. They were LOADS better than the last time.

Next I saw some Modest Mouse who were better than I expected but still had to leave because I think they veer into U2 territory.

Actually even enjoyed Isis more than the last time I saw them. I thought they would be shit.

Caught the last half of Built To Spill who were just as I expected. Great but not amazing...

Was so tired I couldn't move so stayed to watch Capricorns who again, were much better than the last time I saw the and they provided me with some much needed riffage and testosterone.

Everything on Sunday was running late so while Subtle were eant to be on, I saw Bright Black Morning Light. It took about 10 minutes to realise there was actually a band on stage but I liked them anyway.

Then I went to bed.

And I met a bloke with the most excellent body hair I've ever seen.

I had an ace weekend and met lots of ace people. Whoop!

Slint were fucking incredible, but in an odd way- I wished I had been sitting at a table easting some pasta, served with an icy beer- with the lights low.

Pavillion stage was OK if you were near the front, any futher back than the sound desk and the sound got lost in the roof. Shellac sounded great both sets but I'd give their pavillion set a higher rating. I'd have to say they were the best band of the weekend, really good fun and really good rocking. Todd scared me, he looked fucking nuts and I thought he was going to beat up that kid with the paris hilton glasses, onstage banter from Bob and Steve was perfect for the festival atmosphere.

I sat through Isis and Built to Spill, both bands were really good, Built to Spill really suprised me and blew me away a little bit. Capricorns looked like fun but I had to leave after a couple songs to start my drive home. Battles were complex, half great, half a bit disjointed, relationship wise between the musicians. Watching them set up was shit.

Alexander Tucker, Mogwai, Trans Am etc were all really good and put on pretty standard performances as well as a load of other bands.

The sound guys were great because pretty much every band sounded really good, with every instrument well balanced in the mix so well done to them.

The general festival atmosphere was a bit odd, loads of really nice friendly people around wanting to have a good time but also a shitload of pricks doing pricky things. I don't like to rip upon people for dressing up like chicks but the amount of people that made snide comments at me because I wasn't wearing a cardigan, paris hilton sunglasses, skin tight jeans, a handbag, quirky shoes and an impeccable fringe kinda of annoyed me. Some hardcore fashion contest was taking place and I lost, not sure if people needed to be dicks about it though. Some people put a bit of a downer with their shitty attitudes towards other people on sunday but in general I had a really good time and the music was pretty good in general.

i know what you mean about sitting down to watch slint, i started off watching the from the burger king bar!

Ah just shitty comments from people. A lot of people frowned upon a Minor Threat T-shirt I was wearing, apparently it was a fake one and Minor Threat are so yesterday? It was all I had left, if I had known people would be judging my every move I would have tried harder...a-ha-ha. My group got about 10 decent negative comments from various people who were all clearly more advanced than us, even though half the people in my group also had very current haircuts.

I'm not bothered really, just it's a shame people like that have to turn up to try and spread their reign of superiority over people, like that fucking tick at Shellacs second show.
