Chinese Elephant Man

The weight of carrying the tumor on his face has deformed the man’s backbone, stunted his growth and left him in physical and emotional pain.
A team of doctors will try to remove the tumor. However, the surgery isn’t without risk. Ultrasounds have revealed several large blood vessels that may hemorrhage and cause the patient to bleed to death during the operation.
Despite the risks, doctors said they are optimistic they can remove the giant tumor and reconstruct the man’s face.

I have always been fascinated by Joseph Merrick...always wondered why there wasn't another guy like him.

So when religious people see something like this, what do they think?
I mean, how can they explain why god would do such a thing to someone?

We are not able to understand God's choices. It is beyond our abilities. It is important to have faith though.

When I was in Catholic school they used to tell us that the reasons of God are a mystery to man, but we must trust that His divine plans are really for good ends.
Or some such shit.
Imagine how happy that guy's gonna be when he gets that 30 lbs. of useless, dangling flesh cut off his face?
That's something, isn't it?
And the doctor can be proud that he did such a good job and helped an unfortunate individual to have a better life...
Whatever. I suck at looking on the bright side. No matter how you look at it, that guy's life is never going to be what we consider 'normal'.

Man, this story is really amazing. Poor guy. I think the "after" photos might actually be more graphic. How can you completely reconstruct someone's face?

If this was a real rift in time and space...and a real story...it would probably just smell.
Joseph Merrick had bags of flesh all over him that smelled like total ass...apparently. I can't imagine that Elephant Man II smells very good either.
