Howdy.

After plugging in a couple of humbucker-loaded guitars into my amp, it is slowly dawning on me that I might need to shift from my single coils to something that will push the amp better. However, I like that bite single coils are known for...

The amp is this VHT combo, which uses EL84's (class A) and has an awesome 'British' growl...think an AC30 with a more solid EQ and tons of drive to it.

I'm looking into installing a couple of stacked/tapped humbuckers, and would like to know if anyone has any recommendations for a humbucker that will fit into the Tele with no routing, and has more dynamic high end...you know, the best of both worlds. It's a contradiction, I think, but there is probably a balance somewhere.

i think seymour duncan makes a humbucker in a single coil package.

i have a fralin steel pole in the neck possition of my telecaster.

it is the best of both worlds.

You might try the Duncan Quarter pounders. Still single coils, but hot as hell.

there's also the Duncan Little '59, which I've enjoyed on a friend's Tele, but that may push too far from the bite.

I also have a Fralin steel pole in my strat (bridge). It's fab. I've had a few quarter pounders, and they're not bad either. I prefer the Fralin though.

I tried a Seymour Duncan JB blade in the bridge position of a Vox Phantom VI. It fit in the hole w/ no mods, and it sounded like a cross between a hot P-90 and a 1/4 pound Strat pickup. It was nice and snarky.

It looks like the Lindy steel pole is my first step. I'm admittedly intrigued by these Q-tuners, though...anyone played with them?

I'm also tinkering with the idea of bypassing the tone and volume controls, as every time I've done this in the past, it has worked wonders...

if it helps any i also have a telecaster custom with a humbucker in the neck. the steel pole is a sound somewhere between the humbucker and the single coil tele pick up that i replaced, which was sounding a little too thin for me.

call lindy up and explain what you want. he might have other options. he was very helpful with me and i love the pickup.

i vote lindy fralin if only for being from the same place i am from.
