I'm borderline on this one. I love this 'hits' comp I have of them, then i recently borrowed 'electric warrior' and found that the songs not on the comp were either A) very derivitive of the aformentioned songs or B) kooky chuck berry homages ("mambo sun" was a good one not on the comp though).

what do you think? (are any of their other 'acclaimed' albums better? i'm really fond of the early folk stuff on the comp too)

edit: i finally put a space between t and rex..

The acoustic stuff is more commonly known as "Tyrranasaurus Rex", to differentiate from the "rockin" material.

I think they're both crap, though.

"raw ramp" is one of my favorite songs

even though marc bolan sounds like a schmuck to me in interviews,
trex is great.

i turn a blind eye to the song 'cosmic dancer' and say:

trex = NOT CRAP!

I love Electric Warrior except for the song "Rip Off" which is unequivocally craptastic. Really the only record of theirsthat I dig, but on how much I love it...

I really like T. Rex; especially Electric Warrior and The Slider. I think Tanx is an OK record, too. This is another one of those bands my dad played around the house a lot when I was a kid. Vacuous lyrics are a foregone conclusion with Marc Bolan, but I'd rather hear "Rip Off" than any of that fantastical Tyrannosaurus Rex crap about unicorns and wizards (even though I guess it still kinda permeated the T. Rex stuff, it's easier to stomach when the music is less folky, for some reason).

T. Rex: NOT CRAP

I remember reading somewhere that T. Rex was "rumble" music, which I think is pretty ridiculous. Unless you're "rumbling" with a bunch of other guys in a wading pool filled with baby oil, or something.

'cosmic dancer' is probably my favorite trex song (that i've heard). the lyrics are absurd, but it's very moving regardless.

though i still haven't made up my mind on their albums, putting strings and horns and backup singers AND handclaps/hand percussion on nearly every song is NOT CRAP!

I keep not clicking on this thread casue I thought it was for a band called "TREX" not T. Rex and I have never heard of TREX

I don't care if this is a really old thread cause I missed it first time around. The Slider is the 2nd best album ever made in my opinion. Not Crap. I love this band so much.
