If its portland oregon your talking about then you're in luck cause there are shitloads of really nice places.
There is Larrys Jackpot, although its moved locations from morrison st.
But I really like ( and hung around/ tapeop'ed for) Smegma Studios w/ Mike Lastra of ... yes the infamous smegma band. He's got a homie setup with a studer 2" or a tascam 1" or protools. Toys everywhere, and laidback as hell. and the best part is he is cheap!! Hes recorded Earth , Greg sage, John Fahey, Everclear etc.
I think he is about 25 bucks an hour. I think his address is
6720 n willamette blvd
portland oregon
503 286-0256
Check it out anyway. Mike is the gandolf of gear, you'll see why

I highly recommend contacting Adam Selzer at Type Foundry:
http://typefoundrystudio.com/
The things I hear coming out of there lately (and I've been lucky to hear a lot) are sounding really fantastic. The client list on their site is a who's-who of the Portland music scene. Past clients include M Ward, Grails, Decemberists, 31 Knots, Black Heart Procession, on and on...

So you're saying that one has the choice of recording with a former member of Smegma OR a former member of Vomit Launch?
Charming!
