By "critically lauded" I mean either something that everyone from Rolling Stone to Creem to Spin to P4K all say is 'the best,' AND/OR that is worshiped on this board like it's the best thing since sliced bread.
I'll go first. For me, it's one that fits both: The Stooges' Fun House LP. I checked out the 2005 Rhino reissue out of the library and I've been listening to it on and off for the past few weeks. Is there something I'm missing here? Am I just not rock 'n' roll enough to feel the awesome everyone says this album is? I want to say this album totally rules right there with my other albums that I think are winners, but then I'd be a liar.

I . . . I'm speechless.
For me, it is Zen Arcade by Husker Du.
I can't listen to it from beginning to end. Some tracks I enjoy, but it definitely could have been cut down in length.

Brian Wilson- Smile
For an album touted as the second coming of pop's supposedly greatest songwriter... fuck, I liked Pet Sounds better.

Anything by Black Flag. Most 'normal' punk rock actually.

It doesn't have to be from those magazines. It could be something toted as Holy Gospel on this board, your friends, etc.
That said, I never listened to Murray Street myself. Never felt the need to.

anything, critically lauded, by the clash, the minutemen, or sonic youth.
patti smith, too.
and the beach boys.
and echo and the bunnymen.
and the decembrists, most canadian "collective" rock...
there's so much of it, "it" meaning things that are critically lauded that do nothing for me.
