Toby's photo-realism painting is indeed mind-blowing. I love his bus in a junkyard. His illustrator day-job resume is quite impressive, too.

As for Gillard, Salamander didn't hit me as cheeze, and he has greater range as a songwriter than Sprout. Sprout knocks Gillard out in the first round in my iPod, though.

this one is too easy. it is sprout by a mile. he was in gbv when they were great. playing guitar, bass, keys, singing, writing songs and recording the records. he has put out some very good solo albums and e.p.'s. i have always liked his paintings.

gillard was in cobra verde. what i have heard by them is pretty bad although a friend told me they have a good album. he was in gbv when they were ok. he was then in gbv when they were shitty. i have never heard his solo stuff and don't know if he paints. i am a tree is a stupid song.

Sprout. Tobin Sprout. Come on.

I offer up Death of Samantha and Gem as my reasons.

I like both too but songs like Ester's Day from Bee Thousand move me like none of Doug's songs can.
