Oktava MK319

One night, my friend Jei and I got wasted and recorded burps and farts for at least 3 hours with a 319. Gas relief in full fidelity. Our asses sounded wonderful through one. This will also lay testament to its durability.

Oh yeah, it also works for the applications mentioned before. Nice on floor tom too.

I got one for dirt cheap at Guitar Fuckers a couple years ago. I tried it on vocals and instantly hated it. So harsh and resonant in the mids. I tried to sell it to a friend, but no one was in the market. I ended up trying it on bass guitar, and it worked really well, the mid boost helping the bass guitar cut through. I tried it on snare and it was pretty cool. Same with guitar amp and toms.

I kind of use it as my beater large diaphragm condenser. It has the same midrange sound as a 57 to my ears, but with faster (tough a bit harsh) high end, and more apparant lows.

mine (matched pair ) are from fuckers room ( sorry .. sound-room ) and I didn't notice especially harsh high ? sometime it take a while before to find the right mike for the right singer. but I use them most of the time on tom . I will try on snare or kick ...
if no solutions then no problem.

I too have had good results with this mic on bass cabinets, it's off axis response is poor so I wouldn't recommend it for drum overheads, but it's okay for close applications like foor toms (again, providing it's back side isn't close to a whooshing ride cymbal (harsh, oow!)

Like with most things Oktava, I've found the quality control to be quite lax. For instance, before I purchased my 319, I tried out 6 different ones at the dealer. One sounded amazing. Three sounded decent and two sounded absolutely terrible. None sounded exactly like any other one.

That said, I really like the 319 I have on certain voices. This mic is not kind to overly sibilant vocalists, though. (It turns esses into a near whistle...) I've had good results with it on stringed acoustic instruments, guitar cabs and as a drum overhead.

I have had unfavorable results with it on bass cabs and kick drums.
