Looking for advice on staying humble and not getting ahead of myself. Has anyone been in a situation where they left a studio that they had been assisting/engineering at, and moved on to a more successful or bigger studio starting at the bottom again? If so how did you handle the transition? How did you convey (or should you even convey) your capabilities to do things beyond the scope of what you are being asked to do?

I don't have much experience with this. My guess would be to find an engineer who is open to letting you help out or take care of any mundane thing you know you can do. Volunteer for anything you are confident in. As you build relationships, they'll learn more about your experience and trust you with more stuff. I agree that you should try to stay somewhat humble if people don't know you very well. People can be put-off by someone trying to be "too helpful". Sounds ridiculous, but someone might turn down the help if they think they have to check up on you... Get to know the place in and out. Try to know their way of doing things, and the rhythm of the operation. Make any request of you as seamless of an event as it can be.Good luck!

Ive moved from a smaller studio to a bigger one.. i prefer not to mention names here. But in my experience you always think the grass is greener on the other side.. Just cause they are bigger doesnt necessarily mean better. Think about ur quality of work.. generally the bigger a studio, the more you feel like a number.
