http://www.egs.edu/
Distance learning independent graduate education system, with famous postmodern thinkers on the faculty and summer retreats in Switzerland. Tuition: ~$7000 annually.
also: you get an accredited graduate degree from Switzerland.
But also: academic community is 11/12 virtual, no tuition assistance.
But also: you might get to rub elbows with David Lynch and DJ Spooky.
But also: ...provided they show up.
Is it bunk?
LAD...?

This is one of the more amazing schemes for taking the money of hapless liberal arts graduates that I have ever seen.

Never been, but absolute shit as far as I can tell. As a doctoral candidate, I know enough to say that the degree you'll get from EGS will NOT get you an academic job. But the website has a cool video clip of Zizek, if that's worth anything.

As someone who is also wrapping up a PhD, I'll reiterate what the second poster said about not getting an academic job with that degree. Hell, I'm not even sure you could get a job at Wendy's with that degree.

I applied to a European graduate school. But I wouldn't consider going there unless they paid me.

Are you kidding? If you're into that stuff, it would be amazing. The faculty list is utterly mindblowing.

Horseshit. Total hogwash.
Fly in a bunch of Academic superstars for a 2 week wine and cheese fest in lieu of a genuine, collaborative community of peers with whom you could establish real dialogue and intellectual connections? It sounds, from the fuck-all that I know about it, like an orchestration of all the worst trends in academia.
Gilles, it's little wonder you can be found extolling the virtues of a State-hyped multi-billion dollar missile defense system.
Interesting choice of username, by the way. Perhaps "Hitchens" would have been more appropriate(?)
