Anyone ever heard about or use DIYRE stuff? I just bought a few things.I got two CP5 preamps:I also got one Colour Palette:For the Colour modules I got two British Console, two CTX Cinemag Transformer, one JFET Transistor and one Rogue-Tec Passive EQ.We've been adding to our selection of preamps at Burn the Furniture and the CP5's appealed to me because we can swap out the Colour Modules to suit several whatever flavor we want. It's also a nice pre with 66 dB of clean gain.Now I want to build an outboard rack of Colour Palettes. My wallet is trembling as I type this and yet by going the DIY route it costs a fraction of what it would to buy fully assembled name brand stuff. Plus it's fun to mess around with the many options they provide.I'll report back here after we have a chance to use them on a session.

Support this company!The founder is a great guy with a novel idea and I'm glad he's finding success. Peterson used to live in Milwaukee and played drums on the first Red Stuff full length and did some of our earliest shows. He is a fantastic and open minded drummer who dove into a bizarre 2 piece band (whose structure and ideas were very uninformed and out of left field) and made us make sense. If he hadn't given us confidence in what we were doing then, 10 years ago, I don't know if the band would still be around today. Not only that, he let me engineer the whole thing as I normally would (even though he was really getting into recording at the time) and didn't try to steer me. Here's one of my fav songs with him, we recorded this one in his basement.https://redstuff.bandcamp.com/track/valerie-and-daisyI've never tried any of his builds, because I'm still doing an approach that goes instrument>amp>mic>Sony MX-16 mixer>Tascam 488 and I've never been able to figure out how to successfully incorporate other gear (nice mic pres, eqs, compression, etc.) in my equation. I've kind of stopped trying and embraced my method at this point. I should to to build one of his mics.Anyway, TLDR, Dude who runs that company is a great guy and you should feel good buying those products.

You can build a DIY 500-series rack (that I believe is VPR Alliance compliant) with a kit from CAPI last I checked. It s not a huge cost savings unless you go with two of the 11-Space racks (which will run off a single power supply, thus most of the savings) but it looks like a fun project.That DIYRE CP5 preamp is a nice straightforward application of the same TI/THAT/(obsolete) Analog Devices ICs that can be found in plenty of consoles, so they should serve you quite well.

I too like the 500 Series a lot. though my only DIY units are 2 FET/500 Revision D compressors from Hairball Audio. love them!Ruel from five fish audio makes great 500 DIY kits as well, and is also a super nice guy.what brand of rack are you using? or will you DIY the racks as well?

I like their 2 unit rack, but the 6 slot box doesn t have a power switch on the front, and I m not sure if the power supply doesn t cause noise in the modules when they are placed next to the PS.

Wow, I had no idea! That makes it even more awesome. I already planned to buy a lot more stuff from DIYRE, like I said I will build a rack of outboard stuff. If anyone wants to see some of this in action come by BTF. My studio partner, Soren, used the gear last night and he raved about how great it sounds.

We have an 8 space API lunchbox at Burn the Furniture. Now I want a 10 space that I can take with me wherever I go. Looking at the purple audio and a few others. I haven t seen a DIY rack, going to look into that! I ll check out the fish audio link too, thanks!

A few of us at Taylor were going to get his ribbon mic kits and have a build-day. Were super excited at the look of the quality to his stuff - More excited now that I know he's a good dude

Another option for a DIY rack, depending on your level of comfort and knowledge, would be to get card edge connectors and wire each module s power and I/O discretely. This is what many people who rack API 312 or similar preamps do. You would need to source or build an appropriately sized power supply.
