I wonder how this thread might go now, as opposed to when it was done first time around (I'm guessing 2006-ish).

Jim Carrey is a phenomenal actor, and could do anything he wanted. I wish he would stretch himself more. Comes across as a good guy too.
His artwork isn't to my taste, so if we're using 'Artist' strictly for that, it would be a shrug.

I used "artist" so there wouldn't be an issue of differentiating or comparing "actor" ("serous actor") to "comedian", an angle I was hoping to bypass. I guess he paints too?

Aside from things I liked as a teen (Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber) I mostly prefer him in more serious stuff (Eternal Sunshine.. , Truman Show, I Love You Phillip Morris). Not one of the 'greats' or a genius or anything, but fairly likable for a mega celebrity and probably no one you'd want to actually be around for more than 5 minutes. I liked him as Andy Kaufman but the behind-the-scenes 'method acting' doc about that role was self-indulgent crap..
mild NC. His painting comes off as shallow trolling but at least he's on the right side I guess.

He's a very good actor. Not sure about his comedy or painting, don't care to. Not crap.
The Bad Batch.

Not a bad actor. Not my kind of comedy for the most part, although I have fond memories of him on In Living Color. Crap for the forced dada art and transcendental meditation.

He'll always be Fire Marshall Bill to me, but definitely not crap as an actor. Also, he was a vocal fan of death metal in Hollywood.

Obviously an immensely talented actor and comedian but his main act through the 90ies-early aughts grated quickly. Similar to Adam Sandler in that way, both have good range but that's not what their bread is getting buttered for. Carrey has a much better batting average going for him though.

I can’t stand a single second of his comedy. Hated it when I was young, hate it now.
Crap, wf for Man on the Moon.

Having seen Sandler's performance in a straight role in
Reign Over Me, it annoyed me that he didn't do more straight roles after. The guy can act. Sure those dumb comedies pay well, but surely he's at a point that he doesn't need the money.
