Was this covered elsewhere? Google seems more and more useless these days

Maybe I'm not fully understanding the question, but the PRF search function works pretty well. Not perfect, but pretty well. I do think it ignores a few too many "common" words, particularly if you're just searching topic titles only.

If you're using Chrome it's the little magnifying glass looking thing at the top each subforum; you can also access it by pressing the menu drop in the top right next to your profile pic and that'll let you search the whole forum at once.

On a laptop the search magnifying glass is up next to the profile, but on phone view seems to drop down right above the post? edit: never mind, that's just a search within a topic. I don't know where the global search is in phone view, hmmm

That button isn’t visible on my recent iPhone. On the old forum you could use the safari “request desktop site” function to make the site more usable, but that doesn't seem to have an effect on this version

If on an iPhone and using Safari, touch the three horizontal bars at the top right and the search bar pops up immediately above the link to go "Back to the Electrical Audio Website". If you want to do an advanced search, just touch the hourglass in the search bar without typing anything and then it takes you to the advanced search page.
