I'm writing an article for my magazine SiX TeN SPLiT about Big Black's album The Hammer Party. No online or print source I've gone to has said who did the cover art for the album. Just by looking at it I would venture to guess the same person also did Bulldozer, Atomizer and Pigpile—by the liner notes of that album this would be a guy known as L.M. Owen. An exhausting google search had lead me to believe that L.M. owen is in th efederal witness program—he's just not there. If anyone has any info on him or can at least confirm that he illustrated The Hammer Party, please respond to this post. Thank you.

Sorry to be anal, but The Hammer Party was a "reissue" of early ep's. Not an "album" per say. Steve should be able to answer your question though. I'm not sure its the same artist or not.

Yeah, and I'm usually just as anal about things like that, but it was my first introduction to Big Black and its remained my favorite of their releases. The column I'm writing is my chance every issue to tell the readers about my absolute favorite releases that I think people should own... I agonized over the Hammer Party not being an 'actual' album, but at least its not like I'm sugesting kids go out and buy a greatest hits comp, so I went with my favorite.
...
I really didn't want to waste Steve's time with such a trivial thing. I figured this would be my second best bet and if no one got it then I'd ask.

Thats okay, I have post several trivial questions on different occasions and he answered most of them. Nice guy, like most who post on these boards...

Thanks, I saw Albini talk at last years TapeOpCon down here in New Orleans. I've been a voyer of the forums but never really had the need to post. I can't wait to see him talk again AND to finally see Shellac play live. What a fucking treat.

not to be anal, but the phrase is actually "per se."

I knew that, just very late and that is when I become oblivious to my spelling

I wasn't actually being defensive. Hence the silly emoticon. I am familiar with the expression, just was tired and forgot to spell it properly, now who is the one being anal? Don't take everything so seriously.
