That was great, it's nice to hear the details

DD has the best manner. I wish more of my schoolteachers had been like him. He always seems interested, playful and fair.

David Sims' bedside manner and utilitarian bass setup also brings me joy. I too haven't found any reason to move much beyond the first bass I ever bought, a rat a GK and two 15s. He sounds better

I bought an 800RB for the specific reason that, if I were unhappy with how I sounded, there was no way I could blame it on the gear. Also Dr. Balls makes a very excellent Rat-style pedal with a clean blend that's all I use when playing bass (with roundwounds).

It seems like Dennison got very gain-y over time, or maybe he's just turned down very low here? Especially by 'Shot' or the Tomahawk records I thought his sound was mostly clean with some speaker breakup.

I noticed that as well. I definitely prefer his Goat era gain levels.

I'd go even farther back. The combination of his playing and his tone in this tune complements Yow's rambling really well here.
I do love the run-down in the OP though.

I only saw a couple reunion shows over the years but he definitely had a channel switching amp sound going at both.
