I can't help comparing them to the excellence of Duane's preceding band, and I'm not a big Patton fan, but NOT CRAP.

Crap, but who could stack up to the expectation heaped upon their collective heads?

The CD puts out a good attempt at bad-ass, but unfortunately nets tepid.

But I saw them live and it was mostly super really good

and I haven't heard Mit Gas yet.

based on all of these things, yes, it is crap.

Tomahawk=Crap

It hurts to say this, being a fan of Denison's playing, but the two recs they've put out have been really hollow affairs. also really don't like the ubiquitous Mike Patton, so that might have something to do with it as well.

I like(d) the cigar box style cover art for Mit Gas, the music inside maybe not so much

The real beauty of this game c/nc is that, while I have not yet heard Tomahawk, I was forced to vote in order to see the current poll tally. And since I loved the first couple years of Jesus Lizard and then watched as Denison's playing got less and less interesting I can safely say 'Merry Christmas, Tomahawk. You are CRAP."

not crap. saw them at empty bottle a year or two ago when their show with tool got cancelled. they were really heavy, totally solid and had great stage presence. i haven't heard the first album, but i like Mit Gas a lot. i like mike patton a lot so i guess i'm biased.
