what are you playing through it? guitar or bass? open-back cabs are very forgiving with their dimensions but inherently have phase/cancellation issues with bass frequencies.i find the ev cabs to be compact and excellent for a wide range of applications. they do look quite complicated to build though.

you might want to watch that, it's been known to cause "heavy electricity".

if you can hear the sound of the cable being plugged in, it shouldn't be the power amp.

have you tried touching the end of the cord when it's plugged in? where your guitar would normally be? does that buzz? when you wiggle the amp end of the cord when it's plugged in, do you get intermittent sound?

check the connection to the circuit board. as they're circuit-board mounted (i believe) on these models, the solder tends to break over time. i've seen it happen with marshalls of similar construction. also, try plugging your guitar into the fx return (if it has one). this will tell you if the probl...

i love doing this as well, gives you the unrestricted high-end of your pickups. can sound a bit harsh with an overly trebly amp though.

i think the guitars you mentioned do sound slightly different... possibly it's just the difference in bridges - but a 3-saddle bridge with a metal baseplated pickup sounds different to me than a 6-saddle with no baseplate. but then i'm not sure how much effect it has. i think i remember reading that...
