I have been using the MS mic setup lately and have been thinking of trying the Blumlein setup.Do i still need to decode the two mics ( i have built an ms decoder to use) or just pan the two figure of 8s left and right?..

Could I just record the 2 mics to tape and then decode when mixing or is it best to pass the signal through the decoder and then to tape.

I have been thinking of trying the ms technique on the drum kit instead of the spaced pair (overheads) i have been using but i am a bit confused about the placement of the mics.Do i set them up in front of the kit or over the kit? and also if in front, would i still need to use any overhead ...

I was thinking of using the direct outs but would like the feature of combining channels to tape (eg:toms,guitar mics etc).Where do you have your fx returns coming in?at the moment I have them coming into channels 9-16 on the desk but will I have to move them to the monitor inputs..
