Hey guys, I'm going to be buying some new monitors in the price range of £250 and have made the following shortlist:

Alesis M1 Active

Fostex PM0.5

M-Audio BX5

Samson Resolv 65a

Behringer Truth B2031A

I will be listening to each set carefully and hunting down reviews before I make my final choice, but I would love to hear any opinions you folks might have on those speakers, do you love them or hate them? Do you prefer one pair over another? And so on...

Those BX5s are garbage. I sold those right away. The bass is tottaly innacurate, and their fucking ugly to boot. My friend got rid of those Alesis monitors as well. I dont know about those other monitors, but i know iv'e bought a mixer and a compressor from sampson some years back and they are no longer with us (they brokeamated). I have a pair of KRK V8s and those have saved ass because they realy show how bad a mix realy is. If your room is in good shape, and you can make your mix sound good on a set of KRKs, it will most likley sound good anywhere else. These are not good sounding speakers, but they are accurate. There are many good monitors, im just saying what worked for me. Check out the KRK V4, I think they are in your price range. Event ain't bad for cheap either.

I've been reading some reviews by Paul White of Sound on Sound magazine (who's opinion I value very much). So far, the Alesis and Samson monitors come out on top. I couldn't find a review on the M-Audio BX5s there but I found one on another site where the reviewer rates them highly (he is a DJ however, so I am still not sure!!! )

Those V4s are way out of my pricerange, at around £500!! I did read a review of them from Paul White and he gives them the thumbs up. At the moment, its between Alesis and Samson. I recently got the chance to listen to the Alesis M1s and they sound powerful, but a little boxy. That was probably because the room they were in had poor acoustics, but I could hear detail in them which was nice. I already own an M-Audio keyboard and preamp/DI box and I'm very pleased with them both. It would be nice to couple those with some M-Audio monitors and I may get the Audiophile 24/96 one day as it is a very good card for the money.

Hey, whatever sound right to you, buy. I wouldnt trust reviews or testimonials (Unless there in tape op . Companies can get production icons to pretty much say anything. Get a mix that you made where you know there are some problems. Any monitors that mask these problems, stay away from. The ones that accentuate them, consider. Check out some events, they seem to be pretty good for the money. And im an opinionated jerk.
