as far as drawing, it's definitely ennui. my entire drawing style evolved from taking a pen and putting it on a piece of paper and moving it around. and that definitely grew out of channeling ennui, depression and/or anxiety. i did a lot of drawing in college, but really haven't done a ton since.

music, though, is a lot more complex. it's really a combination of factors. the thing that inspires me to write is just, kinda, that's how it is. i play frequently, and the majority of the time i spend playing is all random improvisation, actually not entirely unlike my drawing style. just sorta doing it, playing, and letting what's gonna happen happen. so it's sort of an automatic thing. i play because i love to. i write because it just happens. most of what i create gets forgotten, which is a bummer sometimes. if i always hit record before fucking around though, i dunno, that could get overbearing. so a lot of good stuff gets lost.

but as far as the primary source of my inspiration, i can't say. it just happens. i feel lucky.

anxiety/angst is a close second to "it just happens". being irritated is where my more aggressive stuff stems from. most of the stuff i write is more downtempo, more spacey, sorta like if you drugged a computer, maybe that's what it sounds like. but the fast, aggressive stuff definitely stems from anxstiety.

yeah, "other".

The creative impulse (as I have experienced it) has many manifestations. The first, primal one is seeing someone else do something, and thinking, "I want to do that too."

By the time this phase passes (in some people it never does), one's own aesthetic has developed, an I don't tink inpiration is as topic-specific as listed in the poll.

I've had creative ideas while taking a dump, watching TV, playing billiards -- even while in the middle of executing another creative idea. Also while thinking about nothing.

Being as frank as I can, what inspires me to create is the interest I have in exploring complex, often abstract ideas in the process of creating something. I'm not concerned with how they play out in the rest of the world, as long as the creative process is rewarding. I see no creative "Moment," rather a continuous process, with indefinite terminations. The subject of the process can change entirely once it has begun, so teh original inspiration becomes moot. I guess that's why I feel no great urge to "finish" things and "get them to market."

This doesn't mean I like to worry over them or work on them all the time. Far from it. I just want whatever time is spent on the underlying ideas to be rewarding, regardless ot the the "end product."

On second thought, I'm inspired most by eating pussy.
