I just saw them in August and it was a four-piece with those two guys. You mean they had another lineup change??

Well, it's kind of complicated. Jeff and Gene both play guitar in Don Cab. Jeff does most of the tapping/effects stuff while Gene plays the rhythm. So already Gramsci and company were only getting half the guitar work.

When I saw the new line up Jason played bass and he was awesome. So the bass comment leads me to believe someone stood in for him. Possibly Gene, since as noted by picture, he plays bass in Creta Bourzia.

However... I wouldn't necessarily classify anyone as "the fat guy" in their whole touring crew except for Mike Rock of VITW and TDA. So if he stood on guitar... and Gene stood in on bass. Well, I'd be fucking pissed.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I think that Don Cab's music is really bad. That freewheeling tapping style that Ian used made for some interesting moments here and there, but it never cohered into music that reached me emotionally. Just a bunch of random notes being spluttered out into the atmosphere for no purpose at all.

And Damon's drumming is pretty great, but since when is a great drummer enough to make up for boring music?

I remember buying that SINGLES album and thinking that this music was some of the most tedious stuff I'd ever heard. Some bands that work in a similar vein but who are light-years better are: Ruins, Flying Luttenbachers, Hella, Upsilon Acrux.

I see where you're coming from NerblyBear, although I do usually hear people with that responce talk about American Don. I really didn't think the guitar work on For Respect was all that techincal at all. Maybe give it a listen if you're into Damon's drumming.

I'm still curious about the Nov 30 show. Anyone?

No, the dude who's on bass in that picture was the guitarist and some other dude was on bass (this was in Birmingham). There wasn't a second guitarist.
