Ribbon mic suggestions needed

Yep, made by Stephen Sank. So the guy's a douche? Why?
I'm having a hard time believing the mod doesn't work at all though. I'm sure he -even if he is a douche overlord- wouldn't sell it if it didn't work.
I'm not on the look-out for a RCA 77, but rather a M260 and found a modded one (by him).

I've not heard one of them, but I think I know what one will sound like as I have a pair of M260s which are fitted with foil of the same thickness.

Calling it an RCA 77 modded mic is just stupid in my opinion. It's not going to make the mic like an RCA. Also, it's not a mod - it's justa re-ribboned mic. The foil itself may have been made to be used in an RCA 77, but it's just aluminium foil of a certain thickness. There is nothing special about the material. What does make a slight difference is that the foil is corrugated using a conventional method unlike Beyer's "piston" method. The fact that the RCA material is slightly thinner means that you could argue that the transient response of the mic would be better, plus there will be less resonance in the ribbon. The original Beyer ribbons sound fine to me, and they knew what they were doing when they designed these mics.

As Eliya points out, the mechanical design of the Beyers compared to RCAs is very different so they will never sound like each other. It is the mechnical design which sets the operational characteristics of the mic (frequency response, etc.) The foil does not have a relatively large impact here.

No, I was fully aware that just re-ribboning it wouldn't transform it into said RCA mic.
I'm sceptical toward mods in general since I don't think a team of engineers just put whatever spare parts they had lying around together and thought "hey, it works, sell it".

But that being said, better transient response sounds like a nice perk.
