I want get one of these, or a PR40. Have you tried both, and if so, what do you think ?

I own the pr30. I am very impressed with the mics performance on guitars. I don't recomend it for vocals. I will be picking up a pr40 next week.

For the performance the mics are well worth the cash many times over.

Keep an eye out on ebay, you can pick both up at a better price.

I will try to post some samples once I sober up .

i would use the Beyer 160, it's hyper cardiod instead of the figure 8 of the 260...

this is about the cheapest ribbon you could use...

so my question is, why do you need a $500 mic on your guitar for live sound?

I think so. The less well-known ones were the M320 and M380. The 320 was more or less a 260 in a different body as far as I remember. The 380 was a different build, but I think maybe still cardioid.

The newer M260.80 has a 80Hz high pass filter. Not sure how steep. Getting rid of the bass roll-off requires a transformer swap which isn't easy.
