Inexplicable Choice For a Single

You mean the Television song? I didn't know that it was released as a single. I've only heard it on the "special edition" CD of Marquee Moon. It does not appear on my vinyl copy.

Whatever, haters. LJJ is a great song that embodies what I love about Television: fearless and joyful submission to the creative impulse with absolutely no regard for their audience. Also: funny lyrics, awesome guitar playing, and that strange, discordant structure that wouldn't be heard again until certain extended passages on Spiderland.

If it was a single, it was probably a good one.

According to Matador, "Spit On A Stranger" was the first single.

Over on this side of the pond (on Domino) it was Carrot Rope. Matador must have had better sense.

Just thinking, I haven't listened to that album in about 7 years.
they said our youth was dead...how could they know?

It occurs to me that the number of bands I listen to which even release 'singles' has pretty much dwindled to zero. All that's coming to mind right now is that 'Different World' was probably the weakest track on the last Iron Maiden record. I would hope their is something better than that 'yeah, yeah, yeah' song on the last Flaming Lips album, but I haven't heard it.

Name me a record that you may or may not personally enjoy but where you are nonetheless POSITIVE the band's choice for which song to release as a single off it was all wrong and just makes no sense to you whatsoever.
There's another song on there that you KNOW they should have put out instead.

Or, in general album cuts that you think should have been released as a single if that's how ya wanna play it.

So go, let's hear it.

can you?

Can I what?
Name one?
Pretty much any other track would have been a better single off In Utero than Heart Shaped Box.
I would have went with Francis Farmer myself. Maybe Serve the Servents.
Milk it would have been the best choice after the whole controversy about it being too harsh or whatever, just came right out with it full on.

"Little Johnny Jewel" was a single. It was released on an independent label (Ork Records).
