At the very least it's superficial, but I personally see it as a litmus test for other conditions which could potentially be problematic down the line. Fluoride has also been shown to collect in the pineal gland over time...the jury is still out whether or not it readily accumulates in children, but has been shown in higher levels in adults. Of course the pineal gland is responsible for synthesizing melatonin. In animal trials the reduction of melatonin has been linked to increased levels of fluoride.

FWIW I don't drink or use fluoridated products so I'm biased, but atleast I'm not a hippy.
