I got my parents tickets to see him at the park west and man oh man oh man did they hate it.
My mom said of the show, when I asked how it was that she can go to any old folks home in the city and see a senile old man shuffle around, mumble and plunk away at a casio keyboard for free.

I can empathize with people who find it hard to get into Dylan's music, what with the larger-than-life "legend" status forever looming around him -- which, come to think of it, is pretty incredible in and of itself, seeing as how he isn't even dead yet -- but it seems pretty obvious to me that, if you can put aside all the exaltations and just listen to the music and lyrics for what they are, and if you don't find his voice inherently grating, Bob Dylan owns. Or should I say, Bob Dylowns.

His book, Tarantula, though, I have a copy of this and, lordy, is it forgettable. Just paging through it I found it so unengaging that I put it down and never thought of it again. Until now.

Anyway, Dylan the rebel and Dylan the singer/songwriter -- N/C

I always had a problem with this kind of comment in regards to Dylan. He loved folk music and a big idea within folk is the reworking of traditional and other folk artists songs. Its communal. I like that he was a product of early folk and wore his badges loud.

i hear ya', he's done wonderful work...and i don't know that much about folk music so that's an interesting point to consider...

aside from guthrie-worship...he came into his own very nicely regardless...

I'm 6/80ths the way to #1.

He went to bed about a decade ago, or whenever he sold his soul to the bankers and the elites.
