I'm really telling on myself here, but only pretty recently has Stevie Wonder become sort of an obsession of mine, specifically the 70's run of records. I've always enjoyed Talking Book a lot, but after finally exploring beyond that album did I foolishly realize that was only one vital piece out of many in his catalog.
How do these records still sound so incredible and modern??? You hear the word "timeless" thrown around a lot, but that's how I truly feel these records sound. If I hadn't known, I could be falsely told that these were recorded in 1983 or 1990 or 2004 or last fucking week and I'd believe it. And the tunes themselves of course, I don't even need to get into that, good god!!!
NOT CRAP
Re: Musician: Stevie Wonder
2Not crap obviously, but waffles for some of his later output - I Just Called To Say I Love You probably the most heinous example.

"Whatever happened to that album?"
"I broke it, remember? I threw it against the wall and it like, shattered."

Re: Musician: Stevie Wonder
5Unpopular opinion but that song has a good melody and decent hooks, and if it was played on a clavinet and recorded in the same manner as his mid-70s output or solo on a piano, instead of on some shitty synth set to arpeggiator it could be a good song rather than the saccharine slop it turned out to be.Curry Pervert wrote: Fri May 07, 2021 4:58 pm Not crap obviously, but waffles for some of his later output - I Just Called To Say I Love You probably the most heinous example.

6The musical instrument that could salvage that piece of dirge has not yet been invented.Jimbo wrote: Wed May 12, 2021 1:10 pmUnpopular opinion but that song has a good melody and decent hooks, and if it was played on a clavinet and recorded in the same manner as his mid-70s output or solo on a piano, instead of on some shitty synth set to arpeggiator it could be a good song rather than the saccharine slop it turned out to be.Curry Pervert wrote: Fri May 07, 2021 4:58 pm Not crap obviously, but waffles for some of his later output - I Just Called To Say I Love You probably the most heinous example.

7Fuck that, I like "I Just Called..." just fine.
A little 80's cheese on there, sure, but still a beautiful song.
Anybody even dreaming about voting crap on Stevie Wonder better wake up and apologize.

8That reminds me of the Soundgarden C/NC thread where someone pointed out that half the people here who hate them would love all of their songs if The Jesus Lizard or the Melvins had recorded them.Jimbo wrote: Wed May 12, 2021 1:10 pmUnpopular opinion but that song has a good melody and decent hooks, and if it was played on a clavinet and recorded in the same manner as his mid-70s output or solo on a piano, instead of on some shitty synth set to arpeggiator it could be a good song rather than the saccharine slop it turned out to be.Curry Pervert wrote: Fri May 07, 2021 4:58 pm Not crap obviously, but waffles for some of his later output - I Just Called To Say I Love You probably the most heinous example.

10While we're digressing I think I'll start a new Soundgarden C/NC thread so I can vote Not Crap on them.ErickC wrote: Wed May 12, 2021 8:29 pmThat reminds me of the Soundgarden C/NC thread where someone pointed out that half the people here who hate them would love all of their songs if The Jesus Lizard or the Melvins had recorded them.Jimbo wrote: Wed May 12, 2021 1:10 pmUnpopular opinion but that song has a good melody and decent hooks, and if it was played on a clavinet and recorded in the same manner as his mid-70s output or solo on a piano, instead of on some shitty synth set to arpeggiator it could be a good song rather than the saccharine slop it turned out to be.Curry Pervert wrote: Fri May 07, 2021 4:58 pm Not crap obviously, but waffles for some of his later output - I Just Called To Say I Love You probably the most heinous example.
