Re: Anniversary releases: remixes

I hate them, in principle, but in the In Utero case, as it came additionally to the "classic" version, instead of replacing it, I think they can be interesting.

A number of classic brazilian albums were remixed and re-released like that as the only available version, that sucked. A good chunk of the Caetano discography was fiddled with, as well as records by Tom Ze and a few others. I own some of those versions and feel like I don't really own the records. Original mixes, warts and all, are part of what makes records what they are, I don't think remixing is different from tinkering with the original performances as they came to be heard. That's the reason I never picked up the Rorschach 2xLP at the time, kinda regret it now as I love those records and the originals escalated in price.

I'm curious to hear what redone versions of albums I don't care for the sound of would come out like, but I doubt the results would work for me.

I don't have issues with them when it's more of an curiosity factor and doesn't replace the original mix like in that case. Same w/ REM's Monster (though I haven't listened to that as I only need to hear Monster like once every five years or so).

The remixed version of Soundgarden's Ultramega OK is fine, and seems to have replaced the original mix more or less.

Would love to hear the Huskers records remixed, but have the remixes stand with proper remasters of everything.

CRAP in most cases. I hate the idea of updating for modern sound specs. Leave that shit as it was presented.

Even worse to me is deluxe, expanded editions. No, I just want the 10 songs that were on the original cut.

I like Fun House as it is. Don't need a full box $$$et. If you were to send me the files of it, I'd check them out of curiosity. I prefer to listen to the album as it was intended.
