Is the reissue the Waza Craft one? I wonder why it draws 3x the current of the original. Modeling? Some special bypass design?

I'm loath to recommend behringer, but the HM300 is their version of it, and it's cheap. It's not identical, but it's fairly close. You can probably find a shoot out video on youtube.

I need something tougher, I'm fairly rough on things.

Fair enough. If you were only after the fully dimed swedish metal tone there's always the TC Eyemaster, but you probably want more versatility than that.

Of the clones that include mods, the Earthbound Audio Throat Locust and Dunwich Modded HM-2 are both quite good.

The HM-2 is my favorite distortion pedal bar none. I used to have six or so of them when they were super cheap. My only complaint is that I wish it had a bit more output, but that is a pretty simple mod.

Walrus made a great clone of it but it looks like it is now discontinued.
