My immediate first thought when I saw the thread title. Took me years to get over it, even though I was into a bunch of their contemporaries and successors. I didn't give them a chance until the Temporary Residence 3xLP reissue, at which point I realized they (A) were freakin' amazing and (B) connect the dots between many of the aforementioned bands. Still a godawful name, though.
Re: Great bands you initially ignored because you hated their name
12European rock can be really bad for this:
Does It Offend You, Yeah?
We Are Enfant Terrible
Kap Bambino
I sneered at all three when I saw them in record stores; now I own multiple albums by each

13Youtube has algorithmed me a band or singer called Hiatus Kaiyote. A name like that definitely puts me off.

14Pro-Pain were basically a poorer man's Biohazard, but early Crumbsuckers was good.A_Man_Who_Tries wrote: Mon Jun 07, 2021 7:57 am Around the same time I can think of three other bands with godawful names, who were all godawful - Dearly Beheaded, Pist. On, and Pro-Pain. Pro-Pain get let off for being good lads when Johnny Morrow was sick on their Iron Monkey tour.
I'd rather be throwing darts.

20I have a friend who's a mega fan. Take a late 90's R&B singer who can sing her ass off and put her with some Berkley School of Music kids who want to tone down the flash (slightly) to just groove over some compound time stuff. Add some social criticism poetry.Dovira wrote: Wed Jun 23, 2021 12:02 pm Youtube has algorithmed me a band or singer called Hiatus Kaiyote. A name like that definitely puts me off.
I'm still ambivalent but curious.
