I've got amps with lovely springs, but they are shitty/unreliable/unwieldy amps, so I need a pedal to give my wieldy reliable amp (which has inbuilt digital reverb) some spring lushness. I've watched endless youtube demos, read countless online reviews and am still undecided. I've got an EHX Oceans 11, which a lot of surf/"drip" obessives seem to rate, but which just sounds thin and trebly to me. My Zoom MS-50G has an OK-ish sim, but it's still not really comparable with an actual spring.

I'm braced for a lot of "get an actual spring". I'm wondering about the JHS Spring Tank, cos I like the second setting function. The J Rockett Boing and the Catalinbread Topanga both seem to have a lot of fans.

Any favourites?

I have a couple friends who own Surfybear spring reverbs that they seem pretty pleased with.

Spring Chicken sounds great and used to win the online shootouts, but mine broke pretty easily.

Also copped a Mosky Reverb that is supposed to be a clone of Malekko's Omicron Spring. They don't sound alike to me at all.
The Mosky has funky modulation to it that is awesome if you like whacky reverbs like I do.

The Oceans 11 spring is meant to be modelling an outboad Fender unit, no? They tend to be inherently a bit pointier and more unruly when pushed. The Mr Black Super Swell cops a similar vibe, but definitely sounds darker/smoother. Of all the digital ones, the Source Audio seems to get the most love from genuine spring nuts...quite spendy though, and I'm personally pretty much done with the whole edit-settings-via-a-phone-app thing.

The spring mode on the Digitech Polara is good, but used prices have gone daft.

I've never used a Danelectro Spring King, but I've been tempted by them many times. I still have 2 old Lafayette Echo Verb units, so I'm probably good on external reverb, but those Danos look nice, seem well built, and can still be had for cheap. Plus they have that cool "crash pad" bit, that's just a rubber pad for you to kick to make the springs crash. That's pretty fucking rad. The Spring King would be first on my list.

Seen but never used personally Vanamps Reverbmate pedals. I believe they have an actual spring tank, which makes them big as pedals go, but still smaller than other outboard options.

Can attest to the quality of the Spring Chicken/Chicklet!

Just a thought:

Take a reverb tank out of an amp and build a pedal from it, or use it to replace the digital one in your reliable amp.
