‘The Witness’ is great.
If you’d also like to play something closer to old arcade games, ‘Sayonara Wild Hearts’ is
and very simple to get into, provided you’re fine with synth pop. I think you can play it on practically any modern system.

72Bloodstained - Ritual of the Night. Holy cow! How did I miss this one? One of my favorite Castlevania games (yeah, I know) for sure. If they make ten more games like this I’ll buy and love all 10

73I got my wife Animal Crossing and she loves it, too. She can't wait to play with our kid, but that'll be in a few years. She desperately wants me to play, but I consider AC a hardcore game that requires too much time.bumble wrote: Sun Jul 04, 2021 10:05 pm My 8 year old and I play Animal Crossing together. We have long conversations about how to redesign our island and how to get rid of shitty Villagers. Oh man, she and her dad built spiky barricades around one dude's house so he would just walk back and forth inside the spikes, unable to get out. It was equally awesome, hilarious, and made me feel bad.
I don't have any real skills or history with gaming, so I like walking around and doing stuff in a non-linear way. No pressure. Any other recommendations?
A friend gave me all his Wii stuff, which was a favorite back in the day at dinner parties. I look forward to some tennis and bowling now that we're all vaccinated. (Right? We're all vaccinated, right?)
Two switch games I would recommend checking out: Spiritfarer - you help spirits travel to the underworld. You basically take over the position from Charon and you have a pet cat. The other is Grindstone. It's a puzzle game and kind of an adventure game. The music is great, plus an 8 year old would probably find it hilarious. The first few levels are pretty easy, but it gets exponentially hard.
Re: What Video Games Are You Playing?
74Anyone playing Phantom Abyss? It's a very simple game: run to go through a temple and retrieve a ruin. Your only tool is a whip. There are endless traps, 1 of 3 guardians trying to stop you. There's no time limit. However, every temple is procedurally generated. Only one explorer can claim the ruin, then the temple is closed forever. The temple will tell you how many explorers died there, and if there were explorers there before, you will see their phantoms run through it with you. It seems so easy at first, but it's a really hard and challenging game.

75Keen on this from what I've seen, but haven't the time for it at present.cakes wrote: Tue Jul 06, 2021 10:12 am Anyone playing Phantom Abyss? 76I'm loving Disco Elysium. Weirdo alternative timeline noir, lots of Philip K. Dick qualities. The interface is clunky but simple enough that it's not really an issue.
Re: What Video Games Are You Playing?
77I'm on Day 5 of Disco Elysium, and still enjoying it 40 hours in, though I'm speed-reading a lot of the flavour text now. The prog strengthens the deeper into the game I go.
'Vanquish': my on-and-off playthrough trundles on; I like the game, admire its mechanics and the distant skill ceiling they provide. I don't think I enjoy it enough to get seriously good at it, though.
'Spelunky 2': I wish I were better at this game. It is ingenious, and I'm too impatient, careless and slow to get beyond the first few levels.
'GTA Online' is still the default cooperative, social game I play with my friends. We have not found something that works better for us old men.

78I haven't finished, but I did love what I was experiencing. You're inspiring me to get back into it.sparky wrote: Wed Jul 14, 2021 10:04 am I'm on Day 5 of Disco Elysium, and still enjoying it 40 hours in, though I'm speed-reading a lot of the flavour text now. 79Smashing. I am suffering a little from FOMO at this stage, as earlier choices I’ve made have made some tasks I’ve been assigned in-game impossible. Not sure I have the heart to perform a second playthrough for the missed content.

80If this is about Disco Elysium I would say keep going. It seems designed to come up with an interesting experience even if you make a lot of seemingly wrong decisions.sparky wrote: Wed Jul 14, 2021 12:00 pm Smashing.
