Re: The wurst mic placement ever
2Hm, let's say I put a mic there, then a single overhead, then a stereo pair of room mics. That could be an interesting setup. I'm always trying to find ways of exploiting bleed to minimize the number of mics on a kit.

3I clicked on this thread hoping for a pic of a sausage in a mic stand. I was sorely disappointed.

Re: The wurst mic placement ever
5I used this placement recently quite a bit since the room mic was less than ideal (room? Garage) and I wanted a track of something 'whole kit' that I could mess about with. Worked out pretty well compressed and mixed low, sort of like NY compression, but just that mic. Also has low cymbal content which was useful to me.
I like it called 'knee mic' since I'm far too sophisticated and mature for cock jokes. Honest.

6Ah yes, a rebranding of the old "heart" mic technique. Seems to happen every few years when somebody else "discovers" it.
Re: The wurst mic placement ever
7I've seen this placement countless times before, but every time it was referred to as "crotch mic" (or something like that). What do people mean when they say "heart" mic technique? Is this about the cardioid pattern?
Re: The wurst mic placement ever
9Isn't this example kinda useless w/out hearing the rest of the kit? Where's the toms?
Also someone has to tell me what's going on w/ that snare. Is it just tuned that low? And the snares super loose? Or is it the compression I'm hearing? Very weird sounding.

10It's not going to work in every situation, but I think the example is just fine, and it's doing exactly what a heart mic excels at.Garth wrote: Tue Aug 17, 2021 10:37 am Isn't this example kinda useless w/out hearing the rest of the kit? Where's the toms?

If you close mic cymbals, it's probably not for you!
