road trip usa field recordings album

Dear PRF,

As some of you may no doubt recall (hi Dave!) in late 2018/early 2019 my partner Lex and I did a road trip across the deep south. The PRF leapt into gear and there was page after page of suggestions, advice, offers of just about everything under the sun, and the general sort of epic fucking awesomeness that is the reason for why we all love the place so much.

FM Dave N took us out to dinner as soon as we arrived in Austin and then to punk rock karaoke : ) FM dontfeartheringo pretty much plotted out half of our trip for us. I cannot even thank half of the people who gave us invaluable advice because the old forum has done its thing. The trip changed our lives. We saw places in America that we would have never seen otherwise, and met people who are friends to this day. I met my brother, sister, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews for the first time. It was a blast from beginning to end. If you were one of the FMs who chimed in on that thread and/or sent PMs then please do let me know!

We drove through Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama (by accident), Louisiana, and Texas. Not even in a straight line. We looped and zigzagged and drove around for a whole month. It was spectacular, and I hope to be able to return the favour to all of you someday and somehow. We took a bunch of photos and made a bunch of field recordings. Lex and I have just now finished turning the field recordings into an album. This is the album:

While I recognize some of the sounds recorded on it (e.g. train bells), obviously this is something that's quite personal. I imagine when you listen to it, you're brought back to where you were at that moment.

Are some of the musical recordings on the album bands you saw while you were visiting, or is the music all performed by you?
Thanks! All of the music is from bands that we saw whilst travelling. The only exception is the solo guitar that comes in at around 15:03. That was me playing the guitar I brought at Fanny's House of Music in Nashville at my friend's place in Austin. If you listen carefully you can hear the soundfield change towards the end as Lex opens the door to the bathroom and the reflections are altered. You can hear the door open and the bathroom fan too.

The memories are intense and wonderful : )

Oh if you go on to the bc page you can read the names of all fo the spaces where the different parts were recorded!
