Specifically: The MicroKorg. (non-XL but comparisons between the two are certainly welcome)

What do you use it for? Likes? Dislikes? Alternatives to?

Edit: probably helpful to add that I’m currently using Reason soft synths in my gothy post punk duo for occasional minimal ambient drones, kosmiche arpeggios, synthpop lines etc. Would like something with a little more presence that can be programmed via MIDI and synced/triggered live.

I just got my old 1962 Epiphone Pathfinder back from the shop. It had been shocking us for years and finally stopped working. Bad power transformer. Replaced with a custom wound Mercury trans. New Power and Rectifier tubes, new reverb driver. all pots and jacks cleaned and a new grounded cable installed. It sounds fantastic. I really missed having it around. Time to do some recording. This amp is great. It is cosmetically almost mint. Original Jensen Speaker and Reverb pan. All the plastic bits are intact which is good because these knobs are hard to find. I'm stoked.

The only thing I would change about this amp is the taper or value of the Tone Pot. After about a third of the way up, it is full ear killing treble. I often have it almost all the way down.

Fun fact, the Reverb on these old Epiphones are not tied to the amp volume. You can turn the amp all the way down, and play through the reverb pan 100% wet. I've used it to reamp vocals a ton for vibey old school driven boingy reverb sounds.

I have a few solid state Yamaha amps which a love, that work this way.
Used extensively for reamping lots of snares and vocal sounds.
DIY and die anyway.

Novation Circuit Tracks

Have been trying something a little more modern-sounding and it definitely does that but not having a dedicated display is the worst (for me).

Sounds great, love the fact that it's battery-powered, but the learning curve is STEEP mostly due to what seems to be straight memorization. The size and form-factor are great. It's surprisingly powerful, but man getting lost all the time and having to memorize which knobs serve which purpose in different modes when they aren't labeled is just incredibly frustrating.

It's a nice alternative to Live I guess but not a good fit for me. Too many years menu-diving I think.
