In answer to the question: I would like to try building an aluminum fretboard, but to do so, probably need some serious equipment. Might be a while.

I have doubts about the effect on tone. when I tap the fretboard on this, it rings and sounds like a solid tuning fork.

My Kramer w/ Ebonol fretboard clangs as well as any imo!

+1 for non-wood fretboards. I live in an arid climate and eventually get fret sprout on every wood fretboard that doesn't live in a case.

I was saving the Endurneck and multi-scale questions for followup.

weekly update: Nearing completion- neck has been sanded and polished, basic fretwork done. This is wider, with a shallower profile, very much like my favorite 70's SG. Body has 10 or so thin coats of Tru-oil.

I have a few tweaks to make, but hopefully can start final assembly before practice tomorrow.

all done but the setup. spoken for, and being taken along on tour for delivery.

Hola, amigos- been a while since I rapped at ya. We got back from tour a week ago, and I had a mountain of repairs at the shop to process through, plus a serious week at the day job...But was able to get a start on a few things.

#3 went with me on the plane and was delivered to the new owner. Getting a start on #4, same DC tele design, but a 30" scale bass.
Also getting started on the first bolt-on neck prototype- still in the paper/pencil phase- hope to start cutting aluminum mid-week.
