Mindblowing, trailblazing hardcore jungle/DnB from 1993:

Graham Sutton of Bark Psychosis released a dark, highly technical DnB album 'Balance of the Force' in 1997 that was years ahead of its time:

Digging the Bizzy B.

Wore out the grooves on this one, I did. Starts pretty tame for Squarepusher, but the lounge/jazz melody morphs into knotted and gnarled dnb. Blew my head off when I first heard it. The last movement is just bonkers.

Live dub and electronics from Chicago's Frontier. Mike Tsoulos is a beast on the drums. Closest approximation to executing non-programmed drums I've ever heard. Visceral and thrilling shows. Live, loud, and blinding.

Not purist/doesn't count, but I absolutely adore Pizzicato Five and this 70's lounge take on dnb in particular. Doesn't kick in til much later, but it's cute and well-executed. Super cute.

Not too long ago I ran across a modern dnb mix on Resident Advisor, but I can't seem to recall the DJ's sobriquet. Will get back to you on this, but it was straight fire.

I bought “Jungle Hits Vol. 1” this year, wanting to hear something of what I heard on late night radio in the mid-nineties, and it has not disappointed.

What was sold soon after as “intelligent drum and bass” underwhelmed me, a patronising, AOR version of the potent stuff. Goldie’s “Timeless” seemed overlong, pretentious and tame, and I hated what I heard of the Roni Size album, dismissed it as cocktail lounge music. I was snottier then, obviously.
