Tales of great service

I didn’t find a thread so I’m starting one.
12 years ago I bought a MXR Carbon Copy delay. Great pedal, does exactly what it should and nothing else. I just got it out of storage after moving house and plugged it in on the pedal board … bzzt. No effect, no LED, not even a proper bypass. The “mod” LED lit when tapped. After troubleshooting I figured the pedal itself was malfunctioning and figured eh, I had a decade with it.
Out of curiosity I contacted Dunlop’s tech site. They asked me some details and wanted gut shots of the board and serial sticker etc. then came back and said yeah, it’s an early one, some were electrostatic sensitive. *We repair those free regardless of warranty period.*
Now I live in Tasmania and figured the shipping would kill the value of this generous offer. But no. They contacted the Australian distributor for me. I got an email yesterday saying they would be sending me a replacement board and did I need any help finding a repair shop to install it for me?
I’m happy to do it myself and they’re fine with that. Free - completely free - replacement board, no shipping, a pedal I bought used 12 years ago for half its new price. One of the best experiences I’ve had and since I bitch about poor service I figured I should relate this story.

Not quite the same thing but it reminded me of this post I read on another forum recently:
I have been repairing amps for a guy for a few months. He originally wanted me to work on one specific amp, but kept dropping off other things instead. I believe the first time he did this he said something to the effect of, “I want you to fix a few other things before I scare you away with this one.” He keeps hyping up how incredibly difficult this amp will be to fix and how complicated it looks. Also, he doesn’t understand how his previous tech screwed it up so badly. The one he presumably “scared away”. This guy has been incredibly rude on almost every interaction I have had with him, so I assumed the last guy just didn’t want to deal with him anymore. I have been trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, assuming he has just had a rough year or something, but I was planning to tell him to find someone else after I finish the work I had already promised.



I finally get the amp he originally wanted to be fixed. Open it up, and there is a plastic bag inside the chassis. Three resistors inside, carefully labeled with the resistance and wattage written on the outside of the bag. The resistors correspond to three blank spots on the PCB. I’m guessing the last tech didn’t want to make my job any harder than it needed to be. No Idea what I should tell the client. Kinda want to find his last tech and ask what this dude did to him.

I remember calling pro co to get replacement panels for my snake, these are those plastic 4-inputs-to-a-strip jacks & not very robust despite the "stagemaster" name. This was long ago enough I don't remember if they were still in Kalamazoo or not.

Anyway some dumb clod (me) stepped on it with it completely plugged in & wired up and broke two of the panel strips. I called Pro Co to see if they would take the repair and they said "oh those you can do yourself, don't even need to solder. We'll send you replacements strips." They sent me like 6, so if I ever do that again, I'm well-covered.

Still loyal.

Speaking of great service - I was hoping to take guitar lessons from Duane Denison but he's taking a break from lessons. Anyone know someone else they love who does online lessons? I was looking forward to learning from Duane because he's a songwriter, so ideally someone who's in a band that makes good stuff would be awesome

Chris Brokaw does lessons regularly when he’s not on the road. Roger Miller from Burma was at least as of a few years ago.
