Canada is responding to Trump's pausing of Tariffs by continuing them. I think that's the right move. It's got some ramifications, I think about companies registering to the USMCA. Also, the second round of the Canadian Tariffs will be pushed to go into affect April 2nd. Trudeau said they would only be removed if the US removes all tariffs.

Trump is a coward. If you stand up to him, he will cower. How is this not obvious to everyone else? Democratic leadership are just as much at fault here as the republicans. Why is it that governors, mayors, and junior democratic representatives are the only democrats to understand this?

There's some kind of cultural, psychological element where I just can't get over the 'why fuck with Canada?' of it all. I've always felt like they were our cool aunt or something.

I’m fairly economically savvy and for the life of me cannot figure out the reasoning behind the tariffs on Canada. Canada is the US’s largest export market, it’s nearly 20% of all US exports. All the waffling about immigrants and Fentanyl is just nonsense. I tried to figure out if there was some 5D chess going on but it just has no logic.

It turns out the imaginary fentanyl isn't just political spin, it's legal spin: The 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) permits the executive branch to investigate, block, prohibit or regulate any imports and exports with foreign countries in the case of an “unusual or extraordinary threat.”
