I didn't think it was worth it. If it was less than half the price I would be very tempted. I currently have an 8x14 copper phonic on the way. The only other snares I own and will hang on to are a vista that matches my kit, an Acro and a Jenkins and Martin. What would be second place to the Tama? Maybe the Gretsch BB, which is much more reasonably priced and I believe is a cast shell. I had the DW BB but traded it for the copper phonic.

They're all the same seller.
This poor bastard has had a J&M kit listed on ebay for months now. I tried to send him a message asking if he would speak on the phone and gave him my number. His response was to tell me he will not break ebay policy, but to let him know if I was interested in trading.

I know I'm replying to a super old post, but, along similar lines, I have a 14" clear pinstripe head that maintains permanent residency despite being clapped out and worn to fuck from having been used as a resonant head for some time. His name is "El Douchinator," and his mission is to be placed on top of the batter side of the snare drum to mock the '80s "douche" drum sound when I'm feeling spicy. He has no desire to be used in combat, preferring the lulz.

I've become interested in the differences between these implements. People act like this type of thing is all or nothing. My current favorite is a weight or block in the 7 'o clock position (yes, the placement in relation to the strike point matters) because you get a brief bit of openness before the 'gate' clamps down. Weights/blocks sound different than rings or gels, and all of those are less of a commitment than dry heads.

I took a big gamer mousepad and cut a bunch of little curved slivers like a 3rd of the diameter of the toms and snare. Look like I cut up an O Ring but heavier material. I made some that are about an inch and a half wide and some that are about 2.5" wide and i can quickly change how much muting I want. they work great. Other than that, I have a square of old pillow case fabric that I lay over the snare and will secure with this bungie cord around the drum to do a more total damp sounds like a drum machine snare thing. All work great. all stay in place.
