Since most studio monitor manufacturers evidently don't have cats (except for Yamaha, which is why they're typically my #1 choice), do y'all have any pointers for retrofitting metal grates? Is there a specific mesh I ought to use? I figure I ought to outfit my old Eris E5s before I send them and my old Firestudio setup off to my brother and Rhoads, his lovable asshole feline, named for Mr. Osbourne's legendary guitar player (natch). I am also looking into getting a very small pair of portable monitors for my mobile setup*, and most of the affordable options (I am looking at the Mackie CR3-X in particular) are lacking in the feline protection factor, so this would apply in that case as well...
*To clarify - I have gone from a single-desk setup for tracking and mixing to a rolling equipment rack with a laptop for tracking and my main computer with my Yamaha monitors for mixing, so I can track anywhere in the house, because I currently have a portable kit in my bedroom in addition to my Tama kit in the spare bedroom with the other gear, and you also never know when you might want a close mic and a room mic on a particularly loud diarrhea turd. I was going to just use the laptop speakers for playback and whatnot, but you know how Windows handles ASIO and interfaces - I will need to use the interface outs to dedicated speakers, and why not just get a small pair of cheap portable monitors?
Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
2452I want some kind of plugin that analyzes what outboard gear does to a given track, maybe something like how plugin doctor is supposed to work, but for analog stuff. Ideas?
Partly for shits and giggles, but mostly because I am eternally curious about what my Midas Venice does to the sound.

2453original signal + signal from Midas brought back in, time aligned and phase flipped? Listen to the Delta see whats left, use a scope analyser like Melda and see whats there. Other than that, no idea.llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 12:08 pm I want some kind of plugin that analyzes what outboard gear does to a given track, maybe something like how plugin doctor is supposed to work, but for analog stuff. 2454Maybe REW, like, instead of mic'ing the room, just run directly out of your interface and right back in. See how the response looks, then do the same but through the midas.llllllllllllllllllll wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 12:08 pm I want some kind of plugin that analyzes what outboard gear does to a given track, maybe something like how plugin doctor is supposed to work, but for analog stuff. Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
2455Headphones recommendations.
My Shure SRH440 over the ears phones that I've had for years and years are starting to go, sound only coming out from 1 side now. I use these for plugging into my keyboard and drumming.
Budget: $100 - $200
Thanks.

"Whatever happened to that album?"
"I broke it, remember? I threw it against the wall and it like, shattered."

Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
2456Get another pair. They're awesome! I have a few that I use for practicing and tracking. Or, checkout Beyer Dynamic for something more premium. I got a nice pair of closed headphones for mixing that were open box for under $200 on Reverb. https://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/ ... s-headsetszircona1 wrote: Fri May 23, 2025 1:10 pm Headphones recommendations.

2457There's a headphones thread a couple years old that's worth reading and zombifying. A subject absolutely worth a thread imocakes wrote: Fri May 23, 2025 1:13 pmGet another pair. They're awesome! Re: Small questions that don't fit anywhere
2459Don’t get AKG702, they are horseshit. I bought them on some kind of special marked down to $130 from Musicians Friend and they suck. Total waste of money, and I don’t even need the headphones to sound good.
