Re: What are you listening to right now?

At work listening to Bill Evans’ Sunday At The Village Vanguard and had to click around for a bit before I found a version that didn’t have this dumb ass stereo spread where Bill was hard panned to the left with the rhythm section on the right.

Granted, I am on headphones but this was pretty bad, though odd production choices don’t usually bother me. Judging by the year of release I guess it was just a failed experiment in applying stereo to mono records in a slapdash fashion, but why upload such a piece of shit 65 years later?

Went looking for mono but found a less egregious stereo version with a red cover that is a big improvement.

Kind of reminds me of the constant stream of Bowie and Beatles rejiggerings - I get a record will need to be remastered for digital release, but they can’t they at least clearly denote remixes so that listeners can hear something close to what was originally released?

It’s one thing to “fix” issues of tape generation loss and another for somebody’s middle aged heir to go through and add plugins everywhere so that it might, what? Connect with kids? Be as loud as the Liberty Mutual commercial you couldn’t skip fast enough?

Okay, so I started seeing the name of the band Turnstile around on social media. Including "my generations Fugazi" comments from some random celebrity...

So I went and listened to them.

Terrible, actually shockingly bad. Their shows look like what an influencers idea of a rock show is...
