Oh hey that's funny. I remember it sounding good. When I saw them I thought they seemed like the ticket for baritone...and they were at least for that one show.penningtron wrote: Wed Jun 04, 2025 11:19 amYou're right! That would have been Tim with 'the Pit. The other cab Andy played thru had 50w Jensens (Jets, I think)tallchris wrote: Wed Jun 04, 2025 11:17 amHeck, Tim or Andy likely played through that cab at the 2010 PRFBBQ!penningtron wrote: Wed Jun 04, 2025 6:26 am
Had some in an Emperor 2x12, they were great. I think Marsupialized still has that cab.

1612I’d like to try some big hoss alnico speakers one day. I’ve always kept an eye out for used Fane AXAs just because they were king shit back when I was filching my dad’s Guitar Player subscription. Never pulled the trigger though.

161390's Ludwig Acrolite Snare, 5 x 14", 8-lug. The two other people in my band are great players but are *GEAR DUMB*. Every once in a while I like to gear shepherd them into better sounding and working things. My drummer's snare is a real piece of shit and I dont know that its worth fixing or putting too much effort into. So I bought a great budget snare to have as my own, he can use it or even buy it off me (i'm a horrible drummer) and everything works out. $280 shipped and its clean as hell....hard to not do it.
Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
1614So I’m in the process of selling almost all my outboard and replacing it with a few pieces of Spectra gear. It’s kind of everything I wanted with respect to a clean capture with its own character, with bonus peak limiting and light compression duties forgiving enough to be used during tracking or just left off and just used at mixdown. It’s expensive off the shelf but there are definitely deals to be had if you hunt around.
I’ve always wanted a 4-6 channels of the same preamp and I’m getting much closer, except I’ll be using those same channels for line level compression and limiting as well. Two of the channels I can also use to peak limit mic level signals if I want to go crazy and play around with the single BAE preamp I am keeping - they’re also Tchad Blake style boxes, so there’s all sorts of capability there if I want.

1615I just picked up a trumpet, an Olds Ambassador like I had when I was a kid.
Now let's see if I can get my embouchure back so I can form a 70's ECM type jazz band.

1616Fender Triplebucker. May or may not be used in the bridge position as intended.

1617Hotone Ampero 2. I have the Stomp, which I absolutely love, but while I was considering adding an expression pedal and wanting more buttons, I found a great deal on a new Ampero 2 unit that I couldn't pass up. The biggest difference between these two models are: 4 buttons on the Ampero 2, rather than 3 on the Stomp, a built-in expression pedal, and 4 scenes per patch as opposed to 3 for the Stomp. The Ampero 2 has some extra I/O, the only one that I am interested in is the balanced output. Otherwise, they are identical with the same horsepower and effect slots.
With this setup, I might actually just use a 2 button switch instead of the 5 button midi controller, further simplifying my workflow. I generally have 3 different modulation effects that I never mix together, a delay, compressor, boost, OD and distortion. I can use the 4 buttons for compressor, boost, OD and distortion, the 2 button expansion for switching the expression pedal and turning on delay, and use the expression pedal to change the feedback value for the delay and the other to change the drive amount on the OD pedal. There's more than enough banks/scenes to switch between setups for using the modulation effects, which are usually always on for a song.

1618As much as I love pedals, It's really satisfying to eliminate or simplify a setup. I've had the same pedalboard since about 2012 and I've kept a rule that anything on there has to prove its worth in more than just one song. I don't want to get a bigger board just to show off my collection.cakes wrote:With this setup, I might actually just use a 2 button switch instead of the 5 button midi controller, further simplifying my workflow.
That's what the 2 expression pedals are for on my board as well. If I could have all expression pedals on my board I would.cakes wrote: Wed Jun 18, 2025 1:36 pmI can... use the expression pedal to change the feedback value for the delay and the other to change the drive amount on the OD pedal.

Much less exciting than a freshly-minted kid, but: I did end up grabbing a 2626 for outboard use — thanks for that photo tip. 8 channels of THAT1510 for $55 shipped. I feel good about it.
Thanks again for the tour of your mad scientist lab.
Re: What are you buying, What's on its way?
1620i believe I have a long term loaner of one of these on the way. Ignoring aesthetics, I loved the Hot Rod 50+ one time recording. This is probably more high gain than I can do with, but I couldn't pass up the sssssssmojo
