In his 2004 autobiography Scar Tissue, Kiedis recalled, "One day, I got a glimpse of Andy Gill's notebook, and next to the song 'Police Helicopter', he'd written 'Shit.' I was demolished that he had dismissed that as shit. Police Helicopter was a jewel in our crown. It embodied the spirit of who we were, which was this kinetic, stabbing, angular, shocking assault force of sound and energy. Reading his notes probably sealed the deal in our minds that 'Okay, now we're working with the enemy', It became very much him against us, especially Flea and me. It became a real battle to make the record."

It would have been more likely Punk Funk. Which I think is how they described their music. Probably a little more accurate and insulting at the same time :D

Yeah, I guess, not in the same sense that White Zombie are.

But there are so many instances where insanely heavy meets big-ass groove that can't be qualified as metal, but are still
insanely pleasurable. They're like the crispy edge that results when the brownie batter touches the hot baking pan.

I compiled as many of them as I could into an inspirational playlist for a project I've been working on.

Living colour's debut predates them by a year and is fully formed funkmetal methinks.

My fave is TRT.
