Great Songs You Discovered Through Samples

"Our Generation" by Ernie Hines and "Bootleggin'" by Simtec & Wylie via "Straighten It Out" by Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth

Magic Mountain by Eric Burdon & War from "Potholes In My Lawn" by De La Soul (and "Wandering Star" by Portishead)

"We Getting Down" by Weldon Irvine from "Award Tour" by A Tribe Called Quest

"Nautilus" by Bob James is in a million hip hop tracks, but I associate it with "Daytona 500" by Ghostface Killah more than anything else

Through Kanye's FML.
I still think that album is incredible. Brilliant production all across the record.
I'm with you. Honestly, it might be one of my favorite records. I put it on about once a year for a couple days and get weepy, truth be told. I connected with it in a big way as a newish dad going through a lot of stuff. It's honest and raw and, yes, the production is inspired. I know he was never a particularly great dude, but it is tragic what became of him. Thought of him a lot while watching Quest Love's Sly Stone doc.
