I hope FM Dave N. has a different answer but my food experience in Cancún was underwhelming. Largely catering to American tourists that aren't looking for authentic Mexican food. I'm sure you can find it there if you look close enough, though. I just didn't get a chance to do so with small children in tow.
My friend Laura has a daughter who has this twerpy 18 year old boyfriend named Mason. Cocky, Trumpy, douchey little guy. An alarming percentage of these spring break jackasses look EXACTLY like Mason. He’s clearly a type.

[long article about Kyushu]
We're actually visiting Nagasaki and will also stay up in the mountains in Taketa (not terribly far from Takachiho, which looks a hair too touristy).
If anyone has more Kyushu recs, please feel free.

333I'm a big fan of Kumamoto. My girlfriend has family there, so we spent a few days there in 2023 and will be back again in a few weeks. Very sleep, yet beautiful. Kumamoto Castle is considered one of the "three premier castles in Japan" according to Wikipedia, but it's legitimately fantastic. They also have a small contemporary art museum that has 1 of the 4 James Turrell "Skyspaces" in Japan. There's also a specific kind of ramen for the area, which you can easily find at Keika Ramen in the train station. Highly recommended. Definitely a spot that you could have a fun/chill 2 days in.

334Cool, and thanks. At very least, we'll be in transit in Kumamoto between a few nights in Unzen and a few more up in Aso. Gonna eat that ramen if there's time after the ferry, but before the bus. If there are a few hours, we can hit the castle and make a day of it.four_oclocker_2.2 wrote:I'm a big fan of Kumamoto. 336Airports were rife with delays and cancellations yesterday. Took us about 12 hours to get home from Cancún.jfv wrote: Fri Mar 21, 2025 5:58 am Holy shit... London-Heathrow is shut down for the day?! That's gonna ruin some weekends.

337Shit I love Japan. All the dumb little rules speak to me, though ofc I didn’t at all feel like this on day one (yesterday).

338Going to be in and around Bridgeport/Shelton/Monroe/New Haven CT in a week for a wedding. Used bookstores, restaurants, and bar recommendations would be much appreciated if anyone's got 'em.

340We’re doing our third year on a Bavarian lake.
Honestly it’s paradise compared to packed, stinky Spanish and Italian beaches.
Everything is super clean and organised. The food is great, if you like pork, potatoes and cabbage. The bottle stores are next level. And the selection of non alcoholic beer is around a third of the aisle now.
The only weird thing is how many Germans smoke. Genuinely confusing.
I’ve found my happy place.
